Get an EORI number for Romania

Romanian businesses get their EORI number, often called the cod EORI, from the Romanian Customs Authority. If your company is outside the EU, a number from any EU country works in Romania, so the right country to register in depends on where your goods are first cleared. Apply for a Romanian number here, and we'll check it's the right one for your shipments before we file.

One EU EORI number covers all 27 countries

Who issues EORI numbers in Romania

The Romanian Customs Authority (Autoritatea Vamală Română) issues them free. You fill in the form in its EORI-RO online application, then print it, sign it and send it to the regional customs directorate. Supporting documents are uploaded through EORI-RO, and the number arrives by email.

A Romanian business's EORI number is RO followed by its tax identification number (CUI).

If your company is outside the EU

A company outside the EU registers in the EU country where it first lodges a customs declaration, and should apply before that declaration. If that's Romania, it applies to the regional customs directorate where it will operate, with:

  • its company registration document from its home country;
  • any EU VAT registration certificates it holds;
  • proof of address, with a legalised translation.

It doesn't need a Romanian tax number. A customs representative can apply for it with a power of attorney and the representation contract.

Its number is RO, then its home country code, then the ID number issued in its home country.

How applying with us works

Start an application for Romania. Before the form, we ask three quick questions: where your company is based, whether you already have an EU EORI number, and where your goods will first be cleared.

If Romania fits, we prepare your application for the Romanian Customs Authority (Autoritatea Vamală Română). If another EU country fits better, for example because your goods are first cleared in the Netherlands, we explain why before anything is filed, and nothing changes without your OK.

You pay only once the number is issued.
